SAIL Puts Compact Electric Outboards to the Test

In its August/September 2026 issue, SAIL Magazine published “Compact Kickers,” a hands-on comparison of small electric outboards suited to dinghies, tenders and small sailboats. Contributor Adam Cove tested three models side-by-side aboard his 15-foot Marshall Sandpiper, using them for the kind of last-minute propulsion assist familiar to weeknight racers threading narrow harbor channels before a start.

RemigoOne Neo is one of the three outboards featured in the test. The article walks through its two-button throttle interface and the extra torque from its 12-inch propeller, with a boost mode that Cove says gives sailors “a solution if conditions change unexpectedly.” At 28.5 lbs (34 lbs with the bracket) and rated for roughly an hour of runtime at full throttle, the RemigoOne Neo stood out among the compact units tested for the thrust it brings to the table.

Cove’s broader takeaway echoes a common theme in the compact electric outboard space: lighter, simpler propulsion is winning over sailors who used to rely on oars or small gas kickers, with electric models like the RemigoOne Neo offering meaningful weight savings and cleaner operation over their gas equivalents.
